Upper Silesian Medical Centre in Katowice is a main academic hospital of Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. It has been stated 70 years ago and has constituted the biggest multidisciplinary health centre treating patients from Silesian region and the entire southern Poland. It provides health care in 18 medicine disciplines including 22 departments and out-patients specialized clinics. Upper Silesian Medical Centre employs more than 2500 workers, among them 587 doctors and 926 nurses. Among doctors are academics: 20 professors, 21 assistant professors, 155 doctors with PhD.

The main specialty of the center is cardiology and cardiac surgery – more than 300 beds are dedicated for patients with wild range of cardiovascular diseases.
The laboratory of Upper-Silesia Medical Centre offers a variety of laboratory tests in all cardiovascular clinical scenarios. The non-invasive cardiac diagnostics involves as Holter ECG monitoring, telemetry, remote ECG monitoring, whole spectrum of echocardiography procedures (2D, 3D TTE / TEE, contrasts echo, exercise echo) as well as imaging using 64 MSCT and 1.5T cardiac MRI.
The Upper Silesian Medical Centre contains 3 hemodynamic cath-lab rooms covering wide range of procedures available 24/7, including acute and elective coronary interventions, right heart catheterization, pulmonary artery balloon angioplasty, septal alcohol ablation as well as thrombectomy in acute cerebral infarction. The Centre has 1 hybrid room for structural invasive cardiac procedures, as well as 3 electrophysiology labs covering PM, ICD and CRT implantations as well as ablation of supraventricular and ventricular cardiac arrhythmias.
The Department of Cardio Surgery provides all types of procedures.
The patients requiring in-hospital rehabilitation undergo a programme of rehabilitation in Department of Daily Cardiac Rehabilitation.
The First Department of Cardiology is the main cardiology department in Upper Silesian Medical Centre and Medical University of Silesia in Katowice that became the member of ERN GUARD-Heart network as the first cardiology department in Poland.
