Thematic area 3: Special Electrophysiology Conditions

Cardiac ablations are performed at a frequent basis in adult population and old children. These procedures are performed at a much lower frequency in small children. Nowadays, cardiac ablations are considered a first-line treatment for those patients with tachycardiomyopathy and for incessant tachycardias refractory to several drugs. Eventhough, numbers are low, and expertise is difficult to be reached, thus these procedures are performed in only few centers in order to be held safely for the patient. Expertise in minimal procedure and radiation times and minimal catheter usage ensures better results.

This thematic area is led by Prof. Georgia Sarquella-Brugada, paediatric cardiologist, cardiac electrophysiologist and the representative member of San Juan de Déu – Barcelona Children’s Hospital in ERN GUARD-HEART.
