Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital
Healthcare provider: Bambino Gesù Children Hospital (OPBG), founded in 1869, is recognised at National level as an Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Health Care (IRCCS). OPBG participates to both Regional System accreditation program (Lazio Region) and to international accreditation program as Academic Medical Center Hospital (Joint Commission International – JCI). Patient and family centered care is the main mission of this hospital. As a tertiary children referral centre, OPBG offers more than 20 specialties to 20 million population pool through 10 pediatric departments: Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, General and Subspeciliastic Surgery, Imaging, Emergency, Laboratories, Neonatology, Onco-hematology, Neurology and two departments for general and subspecialistic Pediatrics. Constant collaboration is well established among all departments, both at diagnosis and research levels. Moreover other units actively complement clinical objectives: statistics, clinical epidemiology, telemedicine, legal medicine, and social workers. OPBG participates as health care provider in several humanitarian missions distributed all over the world.
Centre for rare and complex heart diseases: Since early 80s of last century, the Cardiology Department covers the management of major branches: Congenital Heart Defects (CHD), Cardiac Arrhythmias (CA) and Cardiomyopathies (CMP). Cardiogenetic services are distributed at clinical and laboratory levels both at diagnostic and research level. Specific evaluation is offered to children and families at in and out patient consultations. A specific outpatient clinic is dedicated to cardiogenetic services. OPBG is equipped with specific Laboratory pool. At diagnostic level, Medical Genetics Laboratory offers NGS approach for: CHD, CMP and CA (conformity certification UNI EN ISO 9001:2008). A multidisciplinary team of paediatric cardiologists, electrophysiologists, surgeons, cardiac anaesthesiologists, a medical cardiogeneticist, pathologists and researchers aim to provide the best diagnostic and therapeutic approach to improve patients care. OPBG patients’ approach is electronically safeguarded, whether this approach involves in- or outpatients. OPBG guarantees specific follow up program. The main mission of this project is patients’ and families’ centred care.
Dr. Fabrizio Drago is a paediatric cardiologist, cardiac electrophysiologist and the representative member of the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in ERN GUARD-HEART.
